Currently when you place a trapdoor in the same block as an item frame, under most circumstances, the item frame will break. The reason for this happening only makes sense if the trapdoor is spruce or dark-oak, as they are the only ones that do not appear hollow inside. Item frames should instead be made to ignore trapdoors (and maybe normal doors, too) when it comes to checking for collisions.
This should be done so players can make display cases behind trapdoors, which will make it easier to protect your items that are on display (if you use an Iron Trapdoor) or just look nice. It would also be useful for hiding special items in adventure maps, and you shouldn't have to use commands to set the item frame's fixed property to do this, as it means that the item frame would be locked, and therefore make it impossible to remove the item inside while in survival or adventure mode.
Also as far as Bedrock Edition goes, this wouldn't have much effect unless item frame blocks were replaced with item frame entities, which could create lag and break stuff if done.
TLDR: Item frames should ignore trapdoors when checking for collision, which would make them have more uses, and overall make the concept of a display case much easier to accomplish without the use of command blocks.
It would also be very good if the same were true for glass, too.
