The Only Thing The Players Really Want Is For It To Be Able To Be Turned Off By Server Owners

Better direct your energy to improving Bedrock.  Servers are the worst part of it. Very few settings. Few teams. Bugs. Get busy.

Every time I chat the new snapshots I hope this feature is gonna be removed. Players will continue to crack the code and find workarounds no matter how much Microsoft puts effort into putting this feature the community is so against. Hopefully Microsoft eventually learns what they're doing, and how much this hurts us as server owners by taking away the freedom to have own own rules in our communities.

We appreciate the thought, but it is simply not needed in Java Edition.

Servers have had their own moderation systems ever since they were added to Minecraft, almost 11 years ago. Most users want it to remain that way. Therefore, we should continue to let servers make their own rules of what is ok and what is not. Server owners know their players the best, and the same sentence on different servers can mean different things. It has worked for over a decade, and adding another ban system on top of that will just make things worse. Way worse.

However, since Microsoft hosts them, Realms can have the feature implemented, but please make it optional.

And BTW, half of the player base is at least +20 years old, they don't really care if someone is bored in the chat saying stupid things

if you guys are moderating the server text then you should be the ones paying for the server, what happens if an owner of the server starts talking about japan or making rules against hate speech, which will get them banned.

Please keep in mind that Java is the FACE of Minecraft.

It is your advertising arm, and it's the only reason Bedrock is still popular despite how absolutely terrible its reputation is, especially with the recent banning system that has resulted in an insane number of false bans.

If you bring that broken system to Java... If, say, even a small YouTuber gets falsely banned (which is inevitable with this system), then Minecraft's reputation will be lost forever. There will never be trust in the Minecraft devs again. That will be it. The game's popularity will wither away from that time forward.

AND Java players tend to be older, and so more mature discussions and arguments are going to happen, and false and unreasonable bans will be frequent and VERY public.

So if you're wondering if this is a financially sound decision, the answer is more than obviously "Absolutely not."

I am truly sad to do this but with how I play the game and the people i play with this will ruin the game for me. I grew up playing minecraft with friends and also people who I don't like as much as well. this should not be implemented, and unfortunately I will be quitting minecraft from now on. This game was my childhood, and miscrosoft took that away from me.

This is so prone to abuse by people its not even funny. This is just a generally poor idea. Like others have said this needs to be a system that can be disabled or removed entirely. This is taking the moderation out of peoples' hands and the fact that you can be banned from ALL of multiplayer because of one person reporting you is really distressing. This is a very poor choice and I believe it will have disastrous effects on Minecraft.

As someone who respects other players, kindly walk back this feature.  This is not the direction Minecraft should be going.  Far be it for me to decide, but it would do you all well to listen to my advice.

10 years to build your reputation up, 1 update to tear it all down. Where have we seen this before?

The fact that, despite the clear opposition from the community, this feature is being implemented shows how much microsoft is valuing the playerbase on this issue.

For years individual minecraft servers have had the option to self-moderate (and the freedom to decide how far that moderation should go), and for years that system has worked. A family friendly server wont have (or want) the same level of moderation as a PvP server for example.

Many others have made good arguments against this ridiculous feature so i wont dwelve much more into it, but microsoft should be aware that the community WILL find ways around. This is not bedrock edition, some of these people have been playing this game for over a decade and they play it on computers, not on consoles, everyone knows what that means.

Mojang has left the community alone to self-moderate on public and private servers forever. By doing this, you throw all of your player's trust in you down the drain. I have talked to many people on this topic and they have all said "We're not updating to 1.19.1". Please just leave the moderation to the server owners. They've been doing wonderfully at it for years and can continue doing so. They know their players and their specific server's needs and so it should NOT be up to Mojang and Microsoft for how they moderate it, especially when they pay for the server themselves. Mojang or Microsoft doesn't have a hand in that. Just stop this whole thing. You are one of, if not the most beloved game companies out there and a large part of that is because you listen to your players. So please, listen to them here. Because if you don't, all the trust they have in you will be gone.

I'm passing this on from user Jeffrey Farb on youtube, While the technical problems around chat reporting are an issue, I think the real problem is the scope of it. It really seems like to me that it should only apply to first-party servers and the same tools should be released for third-party servers to use if they so choose. Like if someone bullies someone else on my private server, then the chat report should go to my email so I can decide if the player should be banned from specifically my server. Or for those that want players moderated, but don't want to do it themselves, giving a server option to opted into the global ban system. Players connecting to servers that have opted out could be given a warning about how the server allows unmoderated players to join.

I feel like one of the reasons they are doing it the way that they are though is because they either haven't thought of or don't want to be deal with adding proper parental controls. If they added parental controls along with the chat reporting changes I mentioned, then they could do something like add a control on accounts to disable access to servers that have not opted into the global ban system. That way, anarchy servers could continue to run the way they currently do, and parents could have the peace of mind that their kids can't accidentally join one.

Mojang should immediately stop all updates related to player chat reports. As an open-world sandbox game, Minecraft has no rules, which is the main reason why it attracts many players. Players have to conduct self-censorship to avoid risks.

this is NOT ok.. the chat reporting feature should be fully optional on 3rd party servers not be forced upon us

yes maybe realms should have the option on by default but not the others

Horrible idea, especially after seeing the banned words list.
I'd hate to see someone lose access to their account over language barriers or mistyping a common word into a bad word.
I enjoy the game too much to not speak out against this as it will seriously lower the number of players I see online.

This needs to be removed. I really wish Markus had sold the game to Valve instead of Microsoft. I think things would've worked out a lot better, and we wouldn't be having to put up with this garbage.

Bedrock is Microsoft's dream world, where censorship and oppression abound. But this is Java Edition, baby, and it's a whole new ball game. You leave my home game alone.

Plain and simply, just scrap this idea all together. If you're worried about kids being harmed by playing Minecraft, perhaps you should turn to the microtransaction hell that is Minecraft Marketplace. Rather than prove you have zero trust in a community that has done just fine moderating itself for at least ten years.
MicroJang absolutely should not dictate how we use the game in our private time when we're the ones who paid for it and made our own regulated societies.

What if I'm playing on a public server and It ell my friend I'm going to blow up their house? There's obvious context that it's in Minecraft, but all it takes is for someone to abuse this 'feature' and get me banned. If chat reporting gets through I am 100% never playing 1.19.1.

I have a concern that these highly trained moderators aren't going to be able to handle reports coming in from a player base of at least 140 million, daily. This is a completely unrealistic and out of touch thing to implement, that will obviously be automated.

this is a bad idea and is completely unnecessary the servers and realms should be able to monitor themselves and there is absolutely no need for this feature the servers have been self-regulating for years and it has worked just fine and if a server does not want certain content in its chat they can easily install a  filter on the chat and have moderators mute troublesome, players seeing as how this feature could get you banned from all multiplayer instead of just that one server it's over kill and again the servers can moderate themselves and there is no need for you to get involved so please remove this feature and never add something like it again

Microsoft/Mojang this "Feature" is not going to work as intended. I run an Minecraft Java Building Server, thats been up since 2015 all members are adults. This type of server depends on the community being able to communicate with each other, to join in making beautiful megabuilds. We have strict rules about all the things you're implementing, but infractions are rare. Our players have always used chat without fear of losing Minecraft entirely. Now they are talking about disabling their own chat. This breaks communication, community cooperation, and even keeps Server Owners from communicating with them should there be a suspected problem, such as cheating, because they don't send or receive Chat at all!  They might as well be playing Single Player. It is breaking our community, they fear, they may be taken out of context, mis-type a word or accidentally hit that Caps Lock without realizing it and be banned. We had a member with a neurological disability, who often mis-types due to hand tremors. She has already quit the game that freed her from her disability, a few hours each day, for fear she would be banned for all Caps & mis-spelling (which isn't offensive, just difficult to decipher)  Everyone says they're not offended by her sometimes unreadable chat, but someone new could misunderstand. Does this qualify as decriminalization against someone with a disability?  Intended or not, it already did just that! Please let us private server owners choose to enable this or not.

After reading all 296 comments, I saw a grand total of 2 comments that are in full support of this system - and neither gave any reasoning. The remaining 294 comments wanted this system removed completely, completely changed, or at the very least toggleable for independent servers. With how one sided the Minecraft Community's opinion is on this chat reporting system and that the system is still being moved forward despite all the backlash, it is clear to me that this is the doing of Microsoft and Microsoft alone. I've been playing Minecraft since 2012, and I can say with confidence that long time Minecraft developers like Jeb are almost certainly dissatisfied with such a restriction.

On the slim chance any Minecraft Devs end up reading this comment, please don't go through with this. Don't let Microsoft ruin this game. Fight for the true meaning of the game you create - don't let a corporation boss you around. There will be consequences, but millions of us will stand with you -- for the future of our blocky worlds.
