It's a really really bad idea, no matter how much you say that your "highly trained moderators" will keep an eye and sort things out, at least, give a option to toggle off.
I will never understand why this is a thing nowadays, all of those years without this function and the community keeps things nice and clean... It's just strange, cuz everyone seems concerned about hate speech and toxicity, but thats something that happens in every online game and no one can entirely stop this. In my opinion the minecraft community it's one of the most chill that you will encounter.

Have the option to disable the report feature completely. Anarchy, private servers for friends, and other server owners already have moderators in place to handle their own servers and rules, which has been effective for the longest time.

Isn't it obvious? You know we don't want this, but you're doing it anyway.

Microsoft, your terrible censorship policy isn't welcome. Server owners have been doing a better job at policing their chat than you for years. This change only worsens Minecraft's multiplayer aspect.

Auto-reporting hacks are already in the works, meaning all it takes is just a few hackers hopping from server to server to completely ruin any chance of proper moderation. You don't want to accidentally miss a false negative, do you? Of course you don't, you've expressed this quite clearly.

But if you ban those hackers, they can easily just get more clients. Like a hydra, you'll only be serving to multiply them the more you try to stop them.

For anyone who is reading this, please DO NOT RECOMMEND MINECRAFT TO ANYONE. As much as it hurts to have to do this, Microsoft will get away with this unless we hurt their profits for doing this. Recommend another game, like Terraria or something.

Microsoft, your privacy-breaching practices will only help kill your biggest cash-cow of a video game. Nobody wants this.

Your statement goes against the terms of service which you posted.

    > "you don’t pretend to be Mojang or Microsoft or claim to have any association with Mojang or Microsoft"

If your moderating our servers, we have an association by definition.

    > "Neither Mojang nor Microsoft has any liability for anything on the server or that happens on it, including any advertising, purchases, or donations; "

You cannot moderate something you have no stake in.

    > "you are explicit about who to contact about the server, who the operator is, and that it is NOT Mojang or Microsoft, NOT associated with Mojang or Microsoft and NOT supported by Mojang or Microsoft;"

Again if you are moderating chat on our servers, you are now also associated with the server by definition.

    Most has been said...

Let server's toggle it, but allow servers to opt in, if they are unable to moderate by themselves...

It's ridiculous that Microsoft are forcing this with no option, meaning we'll have to have janky solutions like preventing the signing of messages.

Please.... Just let us opt in and everyone will be happy.

Get rid of it or make it toggleable. We have said this a number of times already.

Thank you for the new Document on Player reporting! It answered all of my questions and overall made me appreciate the system more! Thanks!

Make it optional or just don't implement this. Do not force this upon everyone.

No one wants this feature on private servers. This is something that should be up to individual server moderators. I will be disabling this on any server I run via mods.

We already said no. Stop trying to perpetuate this nonsense. I don't think we should even compromise with "keep it realms only" or "make it toggleable". If we give you a micrometer, you will take a lightyear.

    A few things:
1: I actually quite like the "Chat Trust Status" changes
2: Please add the ability for players to be muted rather than banned/suspended for less severe offenses
3: Please allow servers the ability to opt-out of the universal ban system. Perhaps add an icon next to servers that are accessible even to those who have been banned and make it so parents can restrict their children from entering these sorts of servers. (This would help protect more adult-oriented servers, some of which don't want kids on anyways)
4: This universal ban system seems impossible to manually moderate. There will likely be thousands, if not millions, of false reports every day. People have a tendency to exploit and abuse systems like these. Given how large the Java Minecraft community is, I don't know how feasible universal moderation would be.

I get that, as the developers, you have the power to do a lot of stuff with your game, and maybe this doesn't break any rules to implement. However, I, and many others, see this as an overreach of authority that takes power and freedom away from players for what can really only be seen as you covering yourself against liability for bad things happening in private servers.

If the intent here is to control the perception of Minecraft by limiting the content that can spread within the game, this is perfectly understandable; but only if it's on YOUR servers. Minecraft already has warnings for going onto third-party servers, so it is unreasonable for people to associate the hate speech with Mojang or Microsoft.

Additionally, this reporting system, by your own admission, does not use data from the server itself to associate with an accusation. Players that have hateful intent will simply work around these system, as it is obvious at this point that it will be trivial to do so. Likely many others will adopt these workarounds as well for their own private servers. The remaining players, i.e. those that aren't your actual targets, are now just in danger by being in multiplayer where bad actors could abuse this system. The avenues for misuse here haven't been remotely resolved.

If the real intention is to protect children, it is much easier, more reasonable, and more reliable to simply lock away private servers from 'child accounts' unless given permission by a parent.

Should be used on an opt-in basis only. It is fundamentally impossible for any inhouse team to moderate all thousands of private and public Minecraft servers effectively. Leave the moderation to the teams they hire, keep this as an option.

Players don't need your protection from the real world and server moderators don't need your help or your input in moderating their own servers. Stop trying to mess with our private servers

Please make it optional, i think it 's great to have a more secure place for younger minecraft players, but every private server needs to be capable of establishing their own chat rules (or not rules at all, examples like 2b2t and other anarchy servers, who are a huge part of the playerbase), i think it would be great to have this option turned on by default, but allowing to turn it off.

Please don't do this Microsoft. It's a bad idea, and most of the players on Minecraft are mainly teens and adults. This is a bad move.

I understand what you're trying to do; I know (or at least hope) you mean well and want to create and procure a safe and welcoming environment in your game, but I really don't see the benefit to enforcing this on independent multiplayer servers. Your explanation in the FAQ reads close to "it's our game and we can do whatever we want," which is upsetting behavior to see given how you've let independent communities moderate and take care of themselves for years without issue.

In my eyes, you haven't justified implementing a system like this at the risk of false-banning people who've been taken out of context by moderators who will no doubt have to suffer though an ungodly amount of reports day-to-day. You're seriously risking doing a lot more harm than good in implementing this. The communities can handle themselves, and nothing you've said since the addition of this feature has convinced me otherwise.

Please do not implement this, or at least make it toggleable and not on all the time. This is in issue that should be moderated by individual servers, and not solved by forcing something upon the entire playerbase.

Minecraft operates at such a large scale that expecting any kind of level of quality moderation from it is impossible. They're ultimately going to do the same thing as Facebook and other platforms of their size. They're going to rely on an AI, an AI that is going to be accurate enough to review quickly, but with the scale that Minecraft operates it, even getting things wrong even only one in a million times is going to result in thousands of people regularly getting falsely getting banned and Microsoft has a VERY bad reputation for correcting those kinds of mistakes. Bottom line I don't trust Microsoft to do this.

Moderation of this massive game is an impossible undertaking for any single entity to do. The thing is that the ideal moderation solution already existed. Moderation can be done accurately at smaller scales. Let server owners moderate their own servers. If Microsoft wants to worry about making Java more kid friendly then they should be putting a bigger emphasis on first party multiplayer servers like realms, enforce this there, and lock player hosted servers behind parental blocks. Maybe even allow server hosts to opt in/out of Microsoft's moderation system.

And as a nuclear option, allow players to report individual servers if Mojang really feels like a particular server is so unacceptable that it's necessary to protect players from it.

I respect what Microsoft / Mojang is trying to do, but this is the worst way possible to do it.

So "We do not use bots to monitor chat on private servers" is suspect. I find it unlikely, given their demonstrated corporate ethos when it comes to moderation in their other properties, that Microsoft is going to allow Mojang to hire enough human moderators to handle any substantial quantity of reports.

Do you plan to allow server owners to opt-out of and/or disable chat reporting? Will server owners receive any notification of reports being filed?

What steps have you taken to mitigate the risk of false positives from your algorithm or "human moderators" completely missing contextual clues buried in a highly active chat log, or being unware of contextual clues that occur outside of text chat? There is often cross-talk between text and voice chat, for example when a player does not have a microphone, but are listening to the voice chat and responding in text. Or since the only thing your staff can review is the text are those players SOL for any potential appeal of unnecessary bans?

many people are telling to get rid of it. maybe add a toggle to servers to enable/disable it to make the minecraft experience more enjoyable for everyone
