Having moderation from Microsoft would only make sense for Realms, which are OWNED by the company, Yes, Minecraft itself is also owned by it, but the servers people make should be theirs to run. Let communities have their own rules, do not diminish our independence. Sometimes, having chaotic servers may be good, so the griefers can go there and leave peaceful communities alone. Everyone should have a place they belong, that's how it's always been. Microsoft moderation would only feel invasive and as if agency has been taken from the players and server staff.

Please don't add reporting or bans, it's a terrible idea as explained by these comments.

You should just let the server owner do their job.
Make this an option for servers.

Servers have been taking care of their communities for many years, they do not need to be taken control from, leave banning to the servers and don't ever ban anyone from single player.

This feature will make small servers vary vulnerable to mass reporting raids, make youtubers and other content creators vulnerable, and will ruin the style of minecraft, we have plenty of mods that cover this now, we don't need this feature that doesn't even work properly.

Chat report should be optional and not mandatory. Servers should enable or not this feature, many role playing servers eventually will say something like "I'm going to kill you" or things like this but it's only part of the role play, but if a mass counter kingdom decide to everyone report that specific message it will probably be banned... There is no excuse for this feature to me mandatory in any server.

Do not add any chat reporting feature. It will be abused by trolls, turning Minecraft into a silent game where the players do not communicate with each other in game for fear of being banned.

Do not implement the chat reporting feature I have been playing Minecraft since 1.9 and have always liked to play with others. But this feature just makes me scared to log into any public server for fear of getting false banned.

Not the fan of the reporting system! I don't like how it's being featured and removing control from community. It's okay for the implementation of it for Realms but for Community-server based Minecraft Multiplayer Servers it's not a good idea

This reporting system should be completely removed and never brought up again in the Java community.   Due to the numerous examples I am extremely surprised and appauled that Mojang is attempting to add this into Java edition.

Examples like in Bedrock edition, you can get banned in Singleplayer?! How does any of these rules affect other players when there is no Players to AFFECT?

Not to mention there are 1000's of servers, in which players will get banned because it was without any form of context. "I'll kill you in 30 seconds" on a PvP server such as Hypixel, Mineplex, ect.

What about servers like 2b2t that have a mainly adult playerbase? Can server owners disable this feature? Thanks to the amazing microsoft support we have our answers:"                 "

This reporting system must be removed or else the fate of the minecraft multiplayer community could be put into question.

While I understand potential reasons for introducing such a feature, this feature makes me feel unsafe by taking away control from me and my group of friends over place we consider our safe-space. We find such outcome unsettling and wanted to voice our opposition to introduction of such feature.

    I agree with this 100%

I also have an idea.  Instead of reporting players, what about reporting servers?  If you noticed that a server has a non-pg chat, you could report it.  The server would keep on running but it would be marked as a non-pg server.  This way, if players are uncomfortable with non-pg content, they could avoid joining such servers.  This would allow servers to continue moderating themselves, and would also warn other players of the kind of content they involve.  I hope this satisfies a few people, bye.

This is an add to my other comment. Mojang/Microsoft as you remember on the 29th of February, 2016 you released Minecraft 1.9 (The Combat update) which so many players wanted the new PvP to be reverted and because you didn't revert it the update got bad feedback and with this... you are repeating the same mistake.

I have a private and whitelisted server. Why should mojang decide whats acceptable there? I doubt they would even have adequate moderators or support in my native language. Not to mention that platform-wide bans are pretty heavy handed. I never had problem with any bad chat bahaviour, and when one arouse the admins of a given servers dealt with it adequatly. Also, children arent stupid, most understand that trolls exist and use bad language. Its what I was tought in school and by parents to expect from internet and it has served me well.

This is outright outrageous. From harmless private and friendly SMPS to big servers like Hypixel, this just doesn’t work. FOR THE PAST DECADE (plus few years), server owners can moderate their own servers. As a player who is considered for the well being of the game we all play, I personally agree with millions of others that we remove this “report” system. What if I’m playing on a War based SMP and I type “I’m gonna kill this kid” and next thing you know I’m banned for the entire game, even my own single player worlds. I’m also concerned that trolls will spam report people to get innocent people BANNED. Again, for over a decade we are still capable of Moderating our own Servers and creating our own rules. Mojang is clearly neglecting the community and are lying to us. They said “we accept feedback and want your opinion” etc, it is very clear no one wants this feature but hey let’s add it anyway. What happens if I’m playing Bedwars, skywars and someone is trash talking me then I say “sit down kid”, will I get banned for 999 days? Point is, Mojang either A, make this an option for the server hosts or B get rid of it all together. Thank you.

This feature (reporting) should be as opt-in, I run small family friendly server for a few players, mostly friends and some of their friends. And we can very simply deal with problems, just remove them from whitelist for ever and bye. We had problems in past with one player, and I can see very clearly that If this function were available, everyone from our server would get reported. This feature will be also very easily exploited in future. Well known player will be reported immediately. There will be hack clients that will simply report everyone online. It is bad idea and it shouldn't be implemented.

I usually do not involve myself in community issues as I feel that the companies running the game know what they are doing or have just made mistakes but this is something that is not just going to be a simple feature to make the community more welcoming. its going to destroy the player base by silencing everyone and people are going to stop playing anymore. the thing that drew people to java was mostly the freedoms it provided. The ability to make your own little server or join servers made by other players is amazing. It was also amazing that it was community moderated, with the context being able to be known by people running the servers. Take 2b2t for example. It is an extremely popular server known for having almost no rules. if this feature is implemented the server will be broken, with the owner not being able to decide what happens  with it. A server called "E-Girl.mc" might have someone say "I'm gonna kill you" and the moderator seeing that message and the server it came from might not know that it had factions or pvp game modes. I hope you take the time to revoke this feature. I hope Microsoft realizes they will lose a community of amazing people. Thank you for whoever reads this and takes it into consideration.

As a small server owner I'd like to say that Mojang nor Microsoft should even have option to store and review our users chat logs.

That doesn't mean we reject moderation, we reject yours moderation. Minecraft community is strong and many times has proven that it can function on its own :)

Just get rid of the report feature for third-party servers (or add an option to disable it completely in the server.properties) and I would be happy.

This "Feature" is honestly an insult towards all the servers that already have a report and chat-monitoring feature in place, as now Big Daddy Mojang is taking over, handling reports the server owners don't even know of.

The only way I can see this feature work for in third-party servers is either the aforementioned toggle to enable/disable it, or an option to define your own e-mail address for where Reports should be send towards, because THEN could the server owner/team deal with the report properly. The current way could people get falsely reported (And I'm pretty sure the system will be partially automated where if a user gets X reports, they will be banned straight away until it's resolved) and banned because someone else fabricated things up.

At most could I see a Chat-ban, where you can't send messages whatsoever, but a full on ban from Realms and Multiplayer?! That is straight on bullying here!

So, tl;dr I dislike the report feature and it should be limited to your First-party services such as Realms, only!

Third-party servers have worked so far and would still work without this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
