The game already has a ban command, and it's far enough. This is just a breach of the players privacy, and it's a real shame.

private servers since the release of multiplayer always managed to have their moderation work. why change anything? not all minecraft players are kids and there is no need to force everyone to stay E rated. just let people be.

The spirit of minecraft has always involved it being for all ages, censoring will actively destroy that.

If mojang wants to better moderate multiplayer then they should give server owners better tools to moderate them themselves. There’s no scenario where these features being implemented end up doing anything productive. This will only harm the community

I run a server that's mostly LGBT players. We're all adults. We might use language that, in the past, was used against us, to describe each other, in a playful manner. If a person were to join and report us for this, it would very easily become a false positive, and result in an innocent player being banned. Please let us disable this feature on our servers that we run - we're adults, we can decide for ourselves.

These features should be reserved for realms only! Mojang should not police servers they do not own or operate, period. If Mojang wants to help parents, give the parents tools. This is not a tool for parents or server owners. This is a tool for Mojang (Microsoft) exclusively. Having seen the abused moderation tools of Facebook, Twitter, and Truth Social I can guarantee I will not be utilizing Mojang services if they go through with this.

It doesn't matter to what extent the features exist. If they are touching anything not utilizing Mojang services (Ranging from Single player to Java Edition servers) I will be using mods and cracked versions of the game to get around it. Please do not proceed with these features.

This was bound to happen and is exactly why I stopped playing when Microsoft bought Minecraft. Mineclone 2 ftw

Let servers control their own moderation! This is absolutely ridiculous. If someone doesn't like a server's rules or moderation or community, they are completely allowed to not play on that server! Don't pry yourself into private servers either! Absolutely unbelievable.

the amount of context the official team would need to review to consider a ban valid or not is massive. and in case of a false positive claim, the player banned would likely have even less options to provide necessary evidence since you, as a player, don't just keep logs on everything you do at any time.

what if some player a has griefed player b, and upon return player b shouts in rage about the loss he experienced just for players a (the griefer) to report the chat messages while he himself is staying idle/silent. just going by chat messages would not suffice to validate this situation, it would likely let the wrongdoer go free while banning the wrong person.

i can only second other comments suggesting to make this option toggleable by server owners at the very least, so they can choose to use their own systems instead, which i believe many would rather do.

you're turning the whole multiplayer upside down by removing the community out of the equation in favor of single reports that will likely only cover one view of the situation.

This will spell an end to the anarchy servers. considering the fact that you can't or probably won't have any context over what they're saying.

I am an adult. I play Minecraft online on servers that I and/or my friends personally operate, with other adults. It is terrifying that to think that what I say amongst my own friends in a private environment could be held against me if just one person gets in a bad enough mood to click a few buttons.

Chat and behavior moderation has always been done by the community quite effectively. Literally nobody requested this so-called "feature."

I have never once, in my entire life, seen a large-scale moderation system that did not result in some people getting screwed over. The inclusion of a universal chat reporting system will change nothing and will ultimately just cause more grief for players.

Minecraft was not designed as an MMO. It was never meant to be one. The EULA for the server software is even written in such a way as to discourage such usage. The online experience consists of a wide variety of independent servers with different styles and audiences. Why does Microsoft now want to pretend that Minecraft has a single, unified online community with shared values?

In short: my server, my rules. Microsoft can stay out of it, and I'd encourage them from the bottom of my heart to do so.

100%. This new system is an outrageous overstep and microsoft has no right to do this. Private servers have their own rules.

Agreed! I really really hope this isn’t added because not only is it going to be impossible to tell if some if not all reports are real and which ones are fake but it also makes me just not want to play in multiplayer even more now, I’ve already pretty much abandoned pocket edition because of how glitchy it’s gotten for me, I may not want to play the Java edition either now, because what if I am suddenly dislikes by someone and they get their friends to report me for something I didn’t do? Are they really going to take the time to look into it when there’s hundreds of thousands of reports or are they gonna say “yeah this person has a lot of reports on them” and then ban me without checking what the actual case is?

We all now that minecraft servers run good before this change. So why add this feature?  For minecraft servers we created plugins mods etc. that works just fine. Now I'm scared of getting perma-ban for NO REASON and I'm not the only one. I hate to say it but, if microsoft won't remove or fix this thing we might have to see an end of minecraft.

    I agree on this.

While I can see the benefits of such a feature for first-party services such as Minecraft Realms, do I see possible abuse and many false positives for third-party servers.

It shouldn't be the Job of Mojang to start monitoring servers they do not own. It only destroys the fun of playing in multiplayer, as you now have to fear that you could be reported for any reason whatsoever, even falsly because someone doesn't like you.

And knowing current report systems can I imagine that it most likely will be semi-automated by having the account temporarily banned when too many reports come in, which in the end for sure will happen if someone has the great idea of abusing it (Think of DDoSing someone but instead of doing requests, they file dozens of reports).

So, please, please, PLEASE Mojang. Keep this "feature" limited to First-party stuff (Realms) only! Third-party servers usually already have features in place to monitor things, and if you want to do anyone a favour, maybe allow server owners to define something like an e-mail to where reports on their server(s) will be sent to. That way could they deal with the reports in a way that fits their own rules and guidelines.
