Mojang please ,for the love of your game, don't add a chat report feature.

Your game is family friendly yes, I get that, but the servers on Java edition have always been self governed by the players and server moderators. Not only would it be pointless it would drain resources from improving your beautiful, wonderful game. The idea is massively unpopular from within the community and none of us know how you would do it accurately so that innocent people don't get banned. If you do add it either add it to Realms only and have it be a toggleable feature. And for servers, if you choose to add it, make it so server owners can disable the feature because, although it is your game, those servers don't belong to Mojang, but to the players who love your game. Instead you could add a censorship feature that individual accounts can choose to turn on or not, maybe in the social interactions menu. I mean those are just my thoughts on the matter, a player who loves your game, I doubt you will read this but, y'know, I just wanted to share my thoughts on the topic

    As long as the server can’t verify messages, you should be fine. Be careful of ViaFabric Clients, they can report your chat if the server can verify messages.

    These changes should happen to chat, skin and name reporting, and abuse of the report system:

    • If a player abuses the report system, they will be simply unable to report people rather than being banned. In severe cases, the player will be at most unable to report permanently rather than a ban from all realms and servers.
    • If a player gets chat reported, they will be simply muted on all servers and realms rather than being banned. In severe cases, the player will be at most permanently muted on servers and realms rather than a ban from all realms and servers.
    • If a player gets skin reported, then their skin will be changed to one of the default skins rather than being banned as normal. In severe cases, the player will be at most unable to change their skin and they are locked with any of the default skins rather than a ban from all realms and servers.
    • If a player gets name reported, they simply need a new name to play multiplayer and use realms and servers rather than being banned. In severe cases, the player will be at most unable to change their name permanently and be assigned a name like this: "Player", followed by a random digit number which is allowed to break the normal player name character limit rather than a ban from all realms and servers.

    Bedrock bans are worse. Unlike Java, where you can’t be reported if you don’t play multiplayer or Realms, Bedrock bans could appear at any time, all because of fake reporting without even playing Bedrock in ages.
