The new recovery compass is an interesting idea, but it's totally worthless for the place where you get it from. Anyone competent with the game should already know where they died, knowing where you are is INCREDIBLY important, especially if you care about what you have on you. Having an endgame item to point you back to where you last died is pretty unnecessary.
So I propose two ideas: One, make the compass bring your items back to you, or two, teleport you to your place of death. In both instances it would require a counterbalance, like it would need to be recharged over time so you can't just keep using it, my personal suggestion would be collect a ton of XP to slowly refill a durability bar underneath, or a status effect you keep through death that lasts maybe 30-60 minutes. Now downsides to both rework options, bringing your items back would be worthless for say dying in lava or the void, plus keep inventory negates it, and teleporting you to them would also suck for lava and the void, but negates the keep inventory issue.
Personally, I'd go option 2, teleport to your place of death, and have it be recharged with lots of XP to tie back into the sculk XP stuff. This would give the recovery compass a real use that would be worth the risk of the Deep Dark while not being totally broken.
