Minecraft paintings have always been somewhat boring. You place a single item over and over until you get the one you want, and they have no meaningful value besides being decoration. I propose that each Minecraft painting becomes it's own separate item, similar to the music discs. They would become uncraftable, and instead become dungeon loot items.
This would encourage players to explore their worlds even more then they already do. A player might make an "Art Gallery" where they may collect all the paintings, and show off how much they have explored their world.
This would make paintings a much bigger novelty and display piece, rather then being a relatively boring decorative item. They would have much more value then they have now.
It would be a ton of fun trying to collect all the paintings. The only collectible item we have at this time is the music discs, and the soon to be (as of this post) goat horns. I believe paintings would be a great addition to the collectible items of Minecraft.
