Trains Are Now Essential

Currently, it is possible to create a type of "train" using minecarts, but the connection is weak and breaks on turns and slopes.  What we need, is the ability to link the carts, perhaps by right-clicking while holding a chain, so they move as a single entity.  If length is an issue, they can be limited by making them craftable (three carts on a crafting table), or by locking links once a hard limit is reached.

Imagine how much easier it would be, if we could ride the rails with our latest hauls?  Furnace in front, chest in back, empty in center.  Railroads are an underutilized feature with A LOT of potential, especially after the Caves and Cliffs updates.  With more to explore below and in the Nether, and several biome updates on the horizon, we need a fast, safe(ish), and reliable method of transportation.

EDIT: Forgot to mention switches!  If we could craft switch blocks, triggered by buttons, levers, redstone, etc., it would make our mining operations much smoother!

    I think Mojang was already planning a minecart overhaul, so this is a good idea

    I agree with a lot of this I have a survival build map and I don't want to kill the ender dragon yet (I have my reasons) but I need to transport goods from one village to another efficiently while keeping lag low, having carts in the same chunk as me would help a lot

    Having a way to link Minecraft has been requested since minecarts were introduced. I doubt Mojang has any intention on adding it in sadly.

    If this was added it would make Minecraft have a wider range of transportation to choose from so however players want to travel they could choose! And some players don't use elytras so this would be a great addition to the game.

    I love trains, and I want them in Minecraft, but they would be hard to add. The Minecraft devs are pretty amazing though, and I would love to see this in the game!
