Yes, another copper tools request, I know. But please hear me out, because I think I know how this might work without completely disrupting the game balance or whatever.
Instead of acting as wholly new tools, copper could be used as a durability extension for existing tools. The way it would work is, putting a tool (other than Netherite or diamond, obviously) and a certain amount of copper ingots in the smithing table, it would reinforce the tool, giving it a new texture and the description, "Copper-Reinforced".
These copper ingots would translate into extra durability points, 1 per ingot, unaffected by (or not as affected by) Unbreaking or Mending. However, the amount you can reinforce a tool depends on its original material. Something like this:
- Wood / 16 Ingots
- Stone / 64 Ingots
- Iron / 128 Ingots
- Gold / 256 Ingots (Is this overdoing it? Maybe the copper cost could be doubled for gold.)
- Chain-Link Armor / 64 Ingots
- Trident / idk
- Leather Armor / Diamond / Netherite / Can't Reinforce
In my opinion, this is a fair system, as survival players can now be sufficiently rewarded for collecting a large amount of Copper Ingots, which currently are only used for decorative elements. My reasoning for barring Diamond and Netherite from reinforcement is that I don't want a relatively early game material to become broken in the late-game. Additionally, Smith Villagers could also let you trade a tool and some emeralds to upgrade your gear.
Thank you for reading this, and I hope you ponder my feedback
