The echolocator is an item that will be found in ancient cities' chests.
To use an echolocator, the player must equip it in their hot bar and hold right-click.
When using an echolocator, the item will be held to the player's face and their vision will darken until nothing is visible except for the outlines of entities and blocks making vibrations. The player can see these outlines through all types of blocks, except wool.
Using an echolocator will cost its durability. To repair it, a player can combine it with echo shards in an anvil. The player can also enchant it with unbreaking 1-3 and mending.
The echolocator will be useful and fun in Minecraft for a wide variety of reasons. A reason this item will be useful is because cautious players, like myself, can better assess risks to avoid danger. A cautious player can use the echolocator to see how many enemies are inside a structure or cave (players can only see enemies if they make detectable vibrations). Echolocators will also be fun to use in multiplayer worlds. A player can use an echolocator to spot their friends who may be lost underground or hidden in secret bases.
I believe that the echolocator will be as much of a unique and game-changing item as the elytra. Both can allow players to view their worlds from entirely different perspectives. Because of this, the echolocator will draw players to ancient cities and provide great value to echo shards.
