here is my idea: the sabe could be a new weapon (like those pirate swords) that has no cooldown but less damage maybe 6 (netherite) and 2 (wood) here are the pros and cons to make it a balanced weapon
pros:
1. it has no cooldown (and no spamclick penalization either) so its perfect for people who want pre 1.9 combat.
2. right click to cover yourself with the sabe like in the old combat.
3. it has a better unsheathe time than the sword.
4. you can run while holding right click.
cons:
1. MUCH less damage (as i said 2 damage on wood and 6 on netherite)
2. can't swipe
3. no critical hits
4. hitting someone using a shield will cause a good stunt effect on the sabe
5. can't use a shield while holding it
6. right click can only protect you for very specific attacks (like arrows or meele hits) but it won't protect you from lava or explosions
Extras:
it looks like those pirate swords so it could be found in shipwrecks.
the crafting recipe could the same as the sword but diagonal
