This is very true, I also played the beta and made many reviews to improve the game and, knowing that other games, whether in Key Card format or on a full cartridge, offer this function. The fairest thing would be for those of us who have the physical copy to be able to update for free, just like on other platforms.

They did add the 120 fps mode on handheld at least for Switch 2.

Totally agree. This is a kick in the guts to those who have purchased the physical media. There should at least be an upgrade path

Totally agree. Why do you let us test the beta in the first place if we can't upgrade it ? Not fair.

I agree with all the above comments.

Also, at this point, we don’t even know if our content will be transferred should we decide to purchase it again for switch 2. I’m thinking of no man’s sky for which you can get a free update from the e-shop. Wouldn’t that be a solution for any concern that one person can get multiple free updates since it’s linked to a person’s Nintendo account?

I agree! It’s only fair since digital is doing it. It can probably be configured so it’s once per Microsoft account or something. Or you need a specific number of hours played.

I definitely agree. When I found out it was digital-only, it felt like an absolute punch in the gut. I hope more people vote and comment so that Mojang sees this (and ig Microsoft as well), because they're missing out.

Quiero que con mi copia física de Minecraft para Switch 1, se actualice gratuitamente a la versión para mi Nintendo switch 2.

Agree. This is ridiculous to not even give this to physical owners as well.

I already have Minecraft on the PlayStation, my laptop, iOS, and Nintendo Switch, and I easily got the PS5 version for free. Why can't Nintendo Switch physical copies of Minecraft get the Switch 2 version for free, just like how digital can? Other games such as No Man's Sky, Hogwarts Legacy, Epic Mickey Rebrushed, etc. have given us the Switch 2 version for free for physical owners, so why can't Minecraft?

This is unfair, greedy, and shows favoritism for one way to get the game instead of treating both physical and digital copies as equal.

I have bought four copies of Minecraft on Switch so my family can play together and with friends. And now for the upgrade I'll need to shell out another $120? After you gave PS4 players a free upgrade to PS5? Not very cool.

Yeah, Why can't Mojang just also give the Switch 2 version to physical owners instead of being so greedy? It's an absolute cash grab. I'm also playing the physical version and it's an absolute rip off to not give it to everyone.

It’s really unfair that physical Minecraft owners are being left out of the free Switch 2 upgrade. We paid for the same game as digital owners, so why are we being treated differently? Physical copies should be eligible for the free upgrade too. Microsoft and Mojang, please reconsider!

Paying full price again for what is essentially a graphics update is absolutely insane. This might be the worst decision I've ever seen Mojang make. It's somehow even greedier than Nintendo, which is saying something.

On Switch 1 games, Nintendo offers an upgrade pack on the store page. For example, Super Mario Party Jamboree costs $60 for the base game, and the upgrade pack costs $20, which is 67% less than the base game. That's still greedy, since the Switch 2 edition sells for $80, so the upgrade should only cost $10.

Minecraft, on the other hand, offers no upgrade path at all. Oopsies! If you want vibrant visuals and wanna get the most out of your hardware, you'll have to buy the entire game again! Yeah, I am not doing that. Mojang has to fix this before they get even a single cent out of me.

I'm not supporting Mojang anymore if I can't get mine for free. Physical owners shouldn't be excluded! I have bought the game multiple times and I'm not buying it again.

Minecraft was the very first game my parents bought for me when I was a student. Over the years, I have stayed loyal to this game, constantly supporting it by purchasing Minecoins and enjoying added content.
That is why I am deeply disappointed by this decision. Being forced to pay full price again for what is essentially just a slightly upgraded version, simply because I chose to own the physical copy, feels like a slap in the face to long-time fans.
Other platforms received free upgrades. Charging physical Switch owners all over again is completely unfair and unacceptable. Please reconsider and give physical owners the free Switch 2 update!

I know, it's stupid! But I will admit when every other videogame company made the games ridiculously expensive Mojang hasn't, still at $30. Like Nintendo their 3ds games were $40, and if it was a Nintendo select it was $20, now it's like 80$

I deliberately bought the physical Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft because I prefer to own my games on cartridge.

Physical owners are legitimate customers too, and the cartridge itself can already be used as proof of ownership for Switch 2 upgrade paths in other games. There is no good reason why people who bought Minecraft physically should be treated worse than those who bought it digitally.

I am not asking for a second free copy of the game. I am asking for equal access to the Switch 2 upgrade, with the original cartridge required to launch it.

Please offer the same upgrade path to physical owners. Otherwise, many of us will simply not buy Minecraft again just to access the Switch 2 version.

So physical owners are getting a discount on the digital switch 2 ultimate collection of Minecraft instead of a free upgrade like what digital are getting. This is a spit in the face to physical people as digital people get it for free. Treat us fairly like digital people and give us a free upgrade!!

I hope we have a good answer from the Minecraft team as to why A Free Digital Upgrade was offered But Not Extended to owners of The Nintendo Switch 2 Physical Game Card owners.

I paid the same money to get this game physically, just like digital players. To undermine consumers collectively for buying physical is a slap in the face and incentivizes me to not spend any more money on this game or platform.

Please Give Physical Owners the Free Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrade!

I own the physical cartridge version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch, and I believe physical owners deserve the same free Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade as digital owners.

We paid for the same game. The only difference is the format we chose, and that should not prevent us from enjoying the improved graphics, performance, and features of the native Switch 2 edition.

Many of us choose physical games because we value owning and collecting cartridges. We should not have to buy Minecraft a second time just because we prefer physical copies.

There is a fair solution: allow us to download the Switch 2 version for free through the Nintendo eShop, requiring the original Switch cartridge to be inserted to verify ownership and play the upgraded version.

Please, Mojang and Microsoft, reconsider this decision and include physical owners in the free upgrade program. We are part of the Minecraft community too, and our purchases deserve the same respect.

Physical and digital players deserve equal treatment. Please give cartridge owners the upgrade they deserve!

Why not offer a paid upgrade pack for physical owners?

Nintendo Switch 2 already supports upgrade packs, and many games use this system to let players upgrade to an enhanced version by paying only a small additional fee instead of buying the entire game again.

Why can't Minecraft offer the same option to physical cartridge owners? If a free upgrade is not possible, Mojang and Microsoft could provide an affordable upgrade pack through the Nintendo eShop, allowing us to access the native Switch 2 edition without paying full price for a game we already own.

Physical players should not be penalized for choosing cartridges. We have already supported Minecraft by purchasing the game, and we deserve a fair and affordable path to the improved version.

Please consider offering an upgrade pack for physical owners. It would be a reasonable compromise that respects existing purchases and gives everyone a chance to enjoy Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2.

I am displeased with this. Why can a bunch of other game companies offer there Switch 2 edition for free, but somehow Mojang can’t? It is seeming a lot like punishing us “How dare you want to own your games peasant!” “How dare you buy the game on our parent company rival console!”

Sounds like a really lazy move from Mojang, I already bought this game three time, I won't buy it another time juste for a minor graphical update
