I propose a "Geologic Update" that improves the terrain with new structures and new mountain subclasses. On the surface, Geyser Plains feature bubbling hot springs and a new White Sand block that can generate on tropical atolls and beaches. Like Yellowstone National Park. Directly below lie traditional Sulfur Caves, so like the geysers, but a full surface biome. At deep layers, rare Lava Caves introduce massive magma networks, more lava products, and new silicate rocks like feldspar, olivine, mica, and pyroxene for texturing. These can be translated into new Nether biomes and features.
Volcanoes spawn as five types. Active Explosive Volcanoes have a central magma core players can trigger with a Nether Star, causing a massive 500+ damage blast that destroys even netherite and obsidian, exposing raw-resource craters. Supervolcanoes unleash a rare 1,000-heart blast, raining fire or harmful pumice and grey ash like snow. Active Shield Volcanoes are wide basalt structures with smooth, slow lava flows. Dormant Volcanoes hide partially filled magma chambers underground, while small smoking Lava Domes vent steam and smoke, like Mt. St. Helens. Extinct Volcanoes spawn either intact and hollow, making great bases, or as collapsed Calderas transformed into isolated, massive craters. This could also improve lava pools, which feel lacking. Silicate rocks could also spawn above in these biomes/structures. These biomes go hand-in-hand with sulfur caves, which were my inspiration.
