With the recent introduction of Shelves and Cushions, it's incredibly exciting to see the development team re-evaluating long-standing design boundaries to give players more creative freedom. Given this shifting philosophy, please consider introducing vertical and interconnectable slabs by limiting their placement strictly to their own axes.
The Concept:
Vertical Slabs: Allow slabs to be placed vertically against block faces.
Axis-Locked Mixing: Allow two different slab materials to occupy the same block space, but only if they share the same orientation. Horizontal slabs only mix with horizontal (top/bottom), and vertical slabs only mix with vertical (left/right).
Why this works: Forbidding horizontal and vertical slabs from intersecting eliminates the nightmare of overlapping geometry and clipping textures. By keeping the rendering math clean for the engine, this compromise finally gives the community dual-sided walls and independent floor/ceiling textures without sacrificing game performance.
