Minecraft could use a new tool dedicated entirely to farming: the Scythe.
Unlike other tools, the Scythe would not be designed for combat or for tilling soil. Its purpose would be harvesting crops efficiently. When used, it would harvest mature crops in an area around the player, making large farms much faster to manage.
The harvesting area would depend on the material:
Wooden: small area
Stone: medium area
Copper: medium area
Iron: large area
Higher-tier materials could have even larger areas.
To keep it balanced, the Scythe would have a short cooldown after each use. It would also only harvest fully grown crops, leaving immature crops untouched.
Tilling soil should remain exclusive to the Hoe, so the Scythe would not be able to turn dirt into farmland. This keeps the Hoe useful while giving the Scythe its own identity.
The Scythe could also have two unique enchantments:
Bountiful Harvest – increases the amount of crops and seeds obtained when harvesting.
Replanting – automatically replants harvested crops, making large-scale farming much more convenient.
This would give farming a dedicated tool without turning it into another combat weapon, while making large farms more enjoyable to manage.
