I would love to see the Ancient City’s portal structure become a real, functional feature in Minecraft. Right now it’s a mysterious frame with no purpose, but Minecraft Dungeons 2 is already introducing a version of it, which shows how much potential the idea has.
My suggestion is to turn the Ancient City portal into a new late‑game progression feature:
• Activation Item: A rare item found in Ancient Cities (or dropped by the Warden) that can “awaken” the portal.
• Portal Function: Instead of leading to a new dimension immediately, the portal could open a unique “Deep Echo” zone — a small, instanced area with new loot, new sculk mechanics, and new challenges.
• Gameplay Purpose: This gives players a reason to return to Ancient Cities, explore them more deeply, and engage with the Warden in a meaningful way without forcing a full new dimension.
• Lore Connection: The portal ties together the sculk, the Warden, and the ancient civilization that built the cities. It expands the story without breaking existing gameplay.
This idea keeps the mystery of the Ancient City while giving players a real reward and new content to explore. It also aligns with the direction Minecraft Dungeons 2 is taking, but stays fully original for Minecraft.
