I propose adding a Death Chest. If kept in the inventory upon death, it automatically places itself at the death location, safely storing the player's entire inventory (including hotbar/armor) instead of scattering items.
Mechanics: Players can only take items out of it, not put them in. Once emptied, the chest can be picked up, but it requires recharging to be used again (similar to the Respawn Anchor). The fuel could be a unique resource tied to The End or the Deep Dark, opening up new gameplay mechanics and value for future dimension updates.
Benefits:
-
Protection: Fireproof, blast-resistant, and cactus-immune. Prevents despawning and chaotic underwater scattering.
- Multiplayer: Prevents the frustrating mixing of dropped items when friends die in the exact same location.
-
Visual Anchor: Features a glowing, high-contrast texture to spot easily from afar.
-
Compass Synergy: Dying twice currently overwrites your death point. The Recovery Compass should prioritize pointing to your nearest Death Chest instead, letting you recover gear even after repeated deaths.
-
Thematic Logic: Minecraft ties survival mechanics to dimensions (Totem in Overworld, Respawn Anchor in Nether). The Death Chest fits this lore progression perfectly.
-
Immersion & Authenticity: Provides a balanced, in-universe incentive for players to voluntarily stop relying on the F3 Debug screen for coordinates or the
keepInventorygamerule.
-
Performance: Eliminates the micro-lag of spawning 40+ item entities upon death.
