Minecraft’s current rivers and lakes feel too flat and predictable — they mostly generate at sea level and don’t take advantage of the game’s beautiful mountain terrain. I’d love to see rivers that actually originate in the mountains and flow downward, carving their way through valleys and eventually reaching the ocean or a large lake.
Mountain lakes should appear at different elevations — small alpine tarns nestled in peaks, as well as larger crater-like lakes on plateaus. Waterfalls would be a natural extension of this, with rivers cascading off cliffs or down steep mountain sides.
To make these features feel alive, I’d suggest:
-
Rivers that change width and depth depending on the biome and elevation
-
Deeper, wider rivers that are actually navigable by boat
-
Mountain springs that generate in snow and stone, creating small streams and waterfalls
-
Lakes that feel like real bodies of water, not just oversized ponds
This would make exploring mountains much more rewarding, add stunning new landscapes, and give players more reasons to build near high-altitude water sources. It would also make the world feel more realistic and immersive, without breaking Minecraft’s distinctive style.
