The title says it all: Furnace minecarts should load chunks when powered up.
In the past, this mechanic might have been thought of as making it too easy to create chunk loaders; today, with the introduction of chunk loading by ender pearls, this is no longer true.
Let's imagine for a moment how much content implementing such a mechanic would add:
- Meaning: They would add meaning to the presence of carts in the game; Rails are currently extremely limited by faster transportation methods; in fact, no one uses them for any real purpose.
- Multiplayer: Online players could send materials, messages, and more asynchronously from one part of the map to another.
- Redstone: For the Redstone community, this would mean being able to transport resources between different systems, connect farms, and automate practically everything.
- Balancing: Over long distances, the dynamics would require players to create systems to stop the convoy, refuel the minecart, and restart it, as well as constantly refueling the stations.
- Optimization: Currently, if a player wants to keep an area of the world loaded even while offline, they must build a portal-based chunk loader (ender pearls disappear when you disconnect). For each chunk loader created, this means loading a total of 9 x 2 = 18 chunks. Furthermore, there is no real resource cost, so it's literally "build and forget." Furnace minecarts would be much more powerful and efficient, as well as balanced.
