Many decorative blocks in Minecraft currently have recipes that waste a significant amount of material. For example:
6 planks → 4 stairs
6 planks → 2 trapdoors
These blocks are mainly decorative and do not provide gameplay advantages, so the resource loss can feel unnecessary, especially for builders.
My suggestion is to expand the Stonecutter into a general-purpose Cutter. Since the block already looks like a circular saw, it would make sense for it to cut both stone and wood.
Benefits:
Better material efficiency for decorative blocks.
Easier crafting process for builders.
More intuitive than arranging planks into specific patterns.
Gives additional purpose to an existing workstation instead of adding a new block.
Keeps traditional crafting recipes available for early-game players.
Players could still use the Crafting Table as they do today, but the Cutter would offer a more efficient way to produce decorative variants such as stairs, slabs, trapdoors, fences, walls, and similar blocks.
This would encourage creativity and building without affecting game balance, since decorative blocks do not provide significant progression advantages.
