The Tiny Takeover update introduced a significant quality of life improvement by allowing stone to be turned into cobblestone in the stonecutter (and likewise for deepslate). This sets the precedent that rocks can be broken into smaller rocks in the stonecutter for quality of life reasons. The natural extension of this is to allow the stonecutter to turn cobblestone into gravel, gravel into sand, and perhaps even sand into clay. Making the stonecutter interact with hoppers could automate the process. Gravel and clay are, of course, already renewable, but using the stonecutter could open up renewable gravel to players who don't want to travel to the Nether to trade with piglins, and renewable clay to those who don't want to go through the tedious process of converting dirt into mud one water bottle at a time and then waiting for it to dry.
Renewable sand is the most important feature here, as it is a critical bulk resource that currently can't be farmed without duplication bugs. The lack of renewable sand is also the main barrier to getting rid of TNT duping. Many ideas for renewable sand have been put forward, but this one carries a precedent in an existing mechanic.
