Resourcepacks can be bundled to a world by saving it here:
saves/<world>/resourcepacks/resources.zip
When entering that world in singleplayer, this resourcepack is automatically enabled.
However, it does not send or enable it to players joining through LAN or the new p2p features. Additionally, it is not possible to set a resourcepack for worlds on Realms.
I would like to see that bundled resourcepacks are sent to any player joining that world. Perhaps with a dialogue similar to multiplayer resourcepacks, giving the player a choice to enable it.
This should also work on servers, which can set resourcepacks through the server properties. Perhaps if a server resourcepack is available, it could overwrite the bundled resourcepack, giving server owners more control.
Why this would benefit Minecraft Java Edition:
- Easily add custom assets on worlds shared with friends. There will be no need to send them the resourcepack and ask them to enable it manually.
- Realms will get support for resourcepacks!
- Custom experiences, like adventure maps, will be much easier to setup and play with friends. Mapmakers are often already bundling resourcepacks to their maps.
- It will be easier for server owners to set up resourcepacks.
