Graveyards should generate in Minecraft as a dungeon like structure. These could be a simple graveyard with an iron fence, with tombstones, and a nearby church. They could also have a secret crypt underneath. It would be pleasing if both of these got added. Tombstones could have varients, having flat, obelisk, cross, and rounded tombstones. Special tombstones could spawn mobs like a mob spawner.
A new dark, and spikey fence with an arrow head shaped peak could be added. For an example, lets call it a Cast Iron Fence. Grave robbing seems like something Mojang would avoid, but bones, rotten meat, emeralds, and gold could be found under the tombstones. Flowers could be found above the graves.
A large stone coffin could be the centerpiece of the graveyard. It could open like a door, leading into a stairway, which would be the crypt. More loot and dangers would await in the crypt, like unique blocks. The Crypt would not spawn in every graveyard. Other centerpieces like important people could have unique markers in the center of these graveyards. Heros, Holy men, and rich merchants could have their unique tombstones one of which would spawn in a graveyard.
Back to the crypt, similar loot to the graves would generate, but the undead would impede the player. Liches could spawn, casting magic and curses on the player. Aside from those spooky blocks unique undead items and enchantments could spawn in the chests. Perhaps fog could spawn, acting like a liquid. A new gem could generate fog
