Sniffer and Silver update concept

    Silver is also used to make rings, which come with different passive benefits and new enchantment types. Rings go in the offhand slot and have durability, but due to some rings being precious, their durability works like the elytra and does not mean the rink breaks beyond repair, it is only rendered unusable until repaired. No ring can have the mending enchantment, there are ring enchantments to replace it. Any ring can use in breaking to increase durability. All except two are crafted with 7 silver ingots and a full block of the gem.
    Amethyst - Provides night vision in caves. Useful for miners.
    Emerald - Gives a luck effect so long as your hunger is high enough to regenerate, useful in most scenarios outside of combat.
    Quartz - You can walk on lava as if you had frost walker. Note, you DO NOT have fire resistance from this ring. Blazes and any other sources of fire will set you alight. Useful for traversing the nether.
    Lapis - 1.5x XP gain, helpful for enchantments. If mending was allowed as it was, this would be too powerful.
    Diamond - Expensive, and gives passive resistance bonuses. Most combat oriented ring outside of the secret one, though with the enchantments any ring can work.
    Heart of sea - (one heart of sea) Grants dolphin's grace, worse than conduit power but it works anywhere, giving the heart more options.
    Token of the pack - (Digging, multi-step crafting, uses silver and netherite) The most complex ring of all. Sniffers rarely will dig up an ancient ring piece -

    - These pieces are hard to obtain and once you get enough, you can make the "near complete ancient ring", which requires crafting with 7 silver and one netherite ingot in the crafting table. Once crafted, you make the token of the pack, the legendary ring. It has less durability, requiring more upkeep to use, but gives you no hunger drain from regeneration (this seems overpowered but it is balanced by an enchantment), constant night vision, passive resistance (less than the diamond ring), all tamed wolves under your ownership gain strength and regeneration. All bonuses only apply if the ring is equipped in the offhand slot, in the main hand, it can be used to summon a pack of three wolves temporarily on a cooldown, it requires durability to be used. Repairing is less effective on the ring, but netherite can be used on the ring if needed to repair it to full. The token cannot use enchantments outside of unbreaking.
    The token can be combined in an anvil with any sword to give it the "Mark of the pack" enchantment, making all wolves passive to you and follow you, attacking enemies that hit them or you. Crits are also extra powerful, as wolves leap at enemies to attack and the ring is thematically wolf oriented. The sword allows you to benefit from the ring while using anything you want for offhand, but the ring gives better bonuses. The choice is one you have to make.

    - Unique enchantments
    Thorns - Thorns takes a unique slot, behaves as normal. Good overall pick.
    Fiery heart - weaker version of thorns that applies to any damage you get hit with, setting the enemy on fire whether it was via a bow, potion, etc. Helpful and more widespread but weaker in some cases.
    Windy core - Using wind charges to bounce yourself into the air repairs the ring. A mending alternative without any downside, though it relies on needing wind charges.
    Witherous soul - The ring now slowly decays, losing durability constantly when equipped. However, the ring can repair for a minor fraction of the amount mending could for XP. The mending does not work if the ring breaks. If you harm a player with this enchantment on your ring, they get hunger applied to them, which counters the free regen of the token.
    Ends of time - You gain speed, haste, and slower hunger drain. When hit by ANY mob or player you teleport randomly similar to the chorus fruit effect. Can only teleport once every 2 seconds. Balanced when you consider fighting near a deep dark biome, get hit and teleport, and trigger a shrieker.
    All these enchantments help add more choice to the ring selection.

    Other notes -
    These are additions that aren't core to the update.
    New plants - wither rose can be dug up in the nether, and end plants, when end update comes out.
    Ancient kibble - one either rose, two pitcher plants, two mushrooms one bonemeal and two silver nuggets. When fed this, sniffers will dig -

    - Acting like sniffer bone meal.
    Mineral rich soil can be crafted from 1 block of dirt, 4 ancient kibble and 4 bone meal. Enriched soil permanently has better chances of digging, silver over plants, and a slight chance increase to the ancient ring parts in that area.
    Blacksmiths can accept silver as a resource for emeralds. They do not trade you silver, villagers do not own sniffers.
    Silver blocks are included as Minecraft needs more metallic blocks. Chiseled silver, silver stairs and slabs, silver doors and trapdoors and regular blocks can be made.
    Silver ingots can be found in ancient city chests and only ancient city chests, giving them a way of obtaining them without sniffers, though at a danger.
    Silver would look similar to iron but with a more bluish tinge, as the game lacks any slightly blue materials and only has saturated blue blocks.
    That is all I have for the update idea. Please vote if you like this idea. And Mojang, I did my best to adhere to your design philosophies and give every item added more than one use, and even give heart of the sea another use and the chainmail a recipe.
