One of the features that could fit well into the archeology related update is an overhaul to the way enchanting works. For the purpose of this post i will separate the two types i propose into separate categories, infused enchanting and inscribed enchanting. Infused enchanting works exactly the same way that enchanting works at the moment with one exception, the blocks surrounding the enchanting table arent bookshelves but something else that would seem to channel raw magic into whatever item you were enchanting. I suggest amethyst as it fits thematically but there is also the option to go the route that some mods do and have different blocks have different effects (i think thats a bit much though). Inscribed enchanting would work differently, you would have a list of known enchants that you can use and can apply these to weapons and tools etc. But how would you learn these enchants? Youd find relics in archeological dig sites, these relics would have very low durability (maybe only one or two uses) and would have an inscription that the player would automatically learn, however it would be up to them to rename it to whatever they think it does. They could do this by inscribing it first and testing that or by testing with the found relic (which would soon break). I think this would be a great way to give the player more agency in their toolset and would remove the need to constantly break and replace lecterns to get that one enchant you want from a villager.
