In the deepest parts of the Overworld (below y=-48) and as patches in a hotter variant of the Basalt Delta biome in the Nether, there should be "hotter lava", "super-hot lava", "core lava", whatever you want to call it. Hotter lava would be highly visible wherever it is located, as it would look like normal lava except for being white and yellow.
Hotter lava's flammable radius would be twice that of normal lava. If any mob or player without fire resistance or fire immunity approaches within 4 blocks of hotter lava, they automatically catch fire. Hotter lava should flow 1 block every 5 ticks in the Overworld, or 1 block every 3 ticks in the Nether, because it is less solid than normal lava.
Hotter lava should simply destroy water on contact, so throwing water on hotter lava won't turn it into harmless obsidian for you. Hotter lava should also convert adjacent normal lava into additional hotter lava at an average rate of 1 block per 60 ticks. Nor should hotter lava be collectible in iron buckets, because It would simply melt the item. Plus you'll be on fire the entire time you're trying.
