In documentaries, I often see Lions stalking in tall grass, and hiding in heavy brush thickets. So I think adding Tall Brush Thickets, Tall Grass, and heavily wooded areas as sub Biomes in the Savanna would add much needed interest to the Biome.
The Thicket could spawn with some trees and heavy bush clusters barring travel in the sub biome. Small tunnels could form as animal trails. These tunnels are formed by animals frequently using a path. Adding said tunnels would add more life, and make it feel like animals impact the world around. Animals should've able to pass through the brush, but receive a movement penalty within. Passing through the brush could give a chance to leave a clump of fur. This could be crafted into a fur armour set with express purpose for combating the freezing status effect. It could also provide a stealth bonus inside the Savanna biome.
The Tall Grass could be large patches of grass two blocks high, and yellow or tan in color. Trees could sparsely generate in these patches of grass. Watering holes could spawn near or in these patches. Animals can be attracted to these holes, or simply spawn there. Erie monsters can spawn in the Grass and the Brush bringing a sense of danger to the biome, even in the day. These can drop unique loot, only found in the biome, giving a specific reason to come back to the Savannah.
