Slabs of different materials that can be placed on top of each other.

When building I noticed that you could not put together slabs made of different materials like brick slab and wood slab, or different types of wooden slabs together. This mechanic could be beneficial to players everywhere because it is intuitive. When your putting together your idea it's something that you think is natural in the game. It could also increase the building capabilities of the players significantly.

    We've wanted this since the beginning of Minecraft.
    If there was that feature and vertical slabs it would be very useful if there was some tool that you can craft so you can know visually how to put slabs or stairs or any other non complete block.

    I think, that the first thing you learn, when you use slabs in your buildings. Should have been a feature for a long time, maybe in the next builders update.
