With the introduction of the new caves and generation, and the inherent opening of possibilities that are provided, I feel like an excellent opportunity is presented that will help to both preserve those possibilities and also to expand them. Caver’s Maps!! We have overworld maps. However with likely an unprecedented amount of players basing and exploring in caves and the linked environments, a subterrainian mapping system is a massive opportunity that I feel at least deserves consideration. Obviously there are challenges that center around Y level complexities (i.e. not being able to focus simply on the highest block in a world). However, with the introduction of subchunks I feel there is a solution. Even if multiple maps are required for a cave, players will be pleased. And basing these maps on subchunks and their levels can provide the means for this to happen. Please at least consider this. Happy holiday season to you all!
