While Minecraft's new biome and world generation design is great, all areas are lacking from the same issue of having no real diversity aside from different terrain coloring and height. It amazes me how in a wilderness update, simple things haven't been added like:
Rocks on the ground (ie boulders/small rock formations)
Improved/bigger bushes and shrubbery
More condensed wilderness (ie: more/thicker grass, more fallen trees, more variation in each biome)
Perhaps biome specific natural features? Why not add clearings in forest biomes and perhaps some dead trees and derelict structures, small craters in rocky biomes, etc.
As it is the terrain generation looks great but the environments themselves just feel extremely repetitive and lacking any distinction from one another - adding things like different tree types, perhaps biome specific animals, etc would greatly help this.
