Now that the world of Minecraft has more depth and height which has the new ore distribution implemented, navigating this vertical space should be made possible without the use of F3-screen. Ores spawn at differing rates depending on the elevation so the player must know – or is at least benefitted – how high up or down low they are in the world. If the player doesn’t want to use the F3-screen, which kills the immersion of Minecraft’s blocky atmosphere, only option for the player is to count their mining height starting from the sea level, stone to deepslate transition or bedrock. F3-screen and counting are the only options unless the ALTITUDE GAUGE is added to the game.
The altitude gauge could work similarly to the clock and compass items: the player could have it in their hand showing the altitude (like a thermostat for example) or the player could put it in an item frame in their cave base flexing how deep down the base is. The most practical use for the gauge would still be hunting for ores.
The gauge would be reasonable addition because the lodestones and compasses have taken away the need for F3-screen when navigating the world horizontally and now that mobs spawn only in complete darkness F3-screen is neither needed to check the light level. Only use for the immersion breaker: F3-screen, remains in checking the altitude.
