In the End Dimension, exploring often feels repetitive, with nothing to find besides the occasional city. Yes, the loot is extraordinary, but having something else notable to find along the way would certainly be appreciated.
Here's where my idea comes in: a special type of floating island that is vertically larger, and hollow throughout. These generate occasionally instead of regular islands, reach further down, and have jagged surfaces rather than the usual plateaus. In order to prevent you from mining yourself into the void, there is a layer of dark matter along the bottom, which is a deep black block that takes even longer to mine than obsidian.
Inside them is a network of caves, featuring new blocks to mine, such as the aforementioned dark matter. You can also find plenty of Endrite, which is dark purple and has a number of decorative uses. However, breaking Endrite sometimes spawns an Endermite to attack you, as they find it to be a delicious source of food.
Endermen are not normally found in these caves, as they prefer the surface, but you may instead find yourself facing other foes. One enemy you will find in the Void Caves is the Shadow, a strange creature that darkens your vision and attempts to attack you from behind, but is afraid of light sources. These caves are also home to Void Bats, who fly around and mostly ignore you as regular bats do, but they will retaliate if struck, and they sometimes drop Phantom Membrane.
