With making the wilderness more dangerous being a stated goal of the Wild Update, I think it would be a good time to finally expand upon the weather.
Same as always, more temperate biomes will have rain and thunderstorms, however I would appreciate distant lightning having a different sound, so it’s not always like it’s right in my ear (even deep in caves, scaring the ever-loving Christ out of me)
More extreme biomes pose their own threats during thunderstorms, with snowy climates instead seeing blizzards, reducing visibility, slightly restricting movement in a particular direction, boosting it in the opposite (think Morrowind ash storms). It can also apply the freezing effect we see with powdered snow, taking effect much slower, but can be avoided by taking shelter, standing near a campfire, or simply wearing leather armor. The weather blows horizontally rather than vertically, campfires and torches are blown out when caught in it long enough, lanterns being fine, swaying in the wind. Beds should be useless until shelter is found, but it should be more than just standing behind a tree.
Desert sandstorms have much of the same effect but more forgiving. It’s main threat being reduced visibility and frequent husk spawns.
And finally, jungles and swamps during rain or thunder have thick fog, the latter spawning more drowned.
Extreme weather gives hazards in biomes to prepare for, as well as providing an actual reason to use shelter rather than just carrying a bed around.
