Peat blocks can be found under swamps and the upcoming mangrove forests. For a peat block to generate, there has to be atleast one block of mud on top of it and under it. A water source block on top of the mud block increases the chance of a peat block generating in the location.
Peat doesn't just generate into the world, you can also farm it.
You can turn logs into peat blocks. To turn a log into a peat block, there has to be a mud block on top of the log and under the log. A water source block on top of the mud block located on top of the log will make the process of turning the log into a peat block faster. It takes 10 minutes for a log to turn into a peat block without the water source block. With the water source block on top of it, it will take 5 minutes for the log to turn into a peat block.
The mining tool for peat blocks is a hoe or a shovel. Both of them can be used to mine peat blocks but shovel does it a little bit more efficiently.
To use a peat block as fuel you will have to first turn it into a dried peat block in a furnace. You can use a dried peat block as a fuel by putting it into a furnace and use it the same way as other fuels. The burning time of a dried peat block is 7 minutes which makes it a better fuel source than kelp block but not as good as a coal block.
The peat block would be a great addition to Minecraft and it would fit very well with the 1.19 wild update. I could see many people come up with many interesting farms for the peat block.
