1.19 was announced as the Wild Update with Birch Forests and there was a lot of mushrooms growing on the trees in the concept art, which got me thinking. With Minecraft working on making the worlds more true to reality and such, what if the birch forests were changes to Aspen Forests and became similar to the super iron veins that we see in 1.18. Aspen forests are the largest organisms on earth spanning dozen's of square kilometers and are all part of an interconnected root system that shares information and nutrients. They also look very similar to birch and there would be no need to change the color or texture of already very well liked wood. This difference could make the forest very cool as a cohesive structure that spawns as a network of wood and roots making it unique. I am not 100% sure on t item based usefulness benefit. Some ideas I have had are, the roots become water source block extenders, or maybe they become a tool for transporting items horizontally which might be better than hopper chains or some other usefulness that I am not seeing. It would have a similar benefit as the new mangrove forests with the mud and roots systems. Maybe a redstone signal could be set via the roots. I think this idea aligns with what seem to be Mojang's goals with expansions to Minecraft except the purpose which people smarter than me could probably come up with.
