It could be a good way to get a variable light source in minecraft too. The more fireflies you catch in the jar, the higher the light source.

maybe it could also work as a movable light source , i mean the fireflies are lighting up the night sky and the air and flying around , it would only make sense that if when you hold it , it would emit it's light source , and maybe it could change depending on how many fireflies are in the jar? (plus a movable light source just would be really nice , it could be balanced out by how faint of light fireflies would give off kinda like a glow

maybe it could even be a continuous faint light source even when you have darkness affect? or imagine being able to open up the bottle/jar and let the fireflies fly out , i hope the fireflies are actual entities cuz it will add alot of new possibilities!

+ The bottle can be put on the block, since there is no dynamic consecration in Minecraft

You be able to catch 1-5 the more you have the higher the light level

Came to the site for the first time to suggest exactly this! My thoughts were that it could be the first flickering light source added—The ambience would be awesome!

It could be the first flashing light source that flashes in different light levels. Only in appearance though because it might be unreliable for mob spawning

The moment that the firefly is revealed, everyone thought the same thing: add a light source block, "fireflies in a jar". It'll look incredible in builds, hanging on chains, on tables. It can also be used to breed frogs.

If the firefly is meant to be a particle effect, and if interacting with glass bottles can cause lag, then it could instead be an item sold by Wandering Traders and Villagers.

The concept arts for the wild update look amazing! If the game can match that, along with immersive sound effects, this could be one of the best updates ever!

I would also love to be able to put the bottle down somewhere! Idk how they’d like animate the bottle sitting on something but even if they add a jar or something we can catch them in and set them down in our worlds

Also, make the bottles with fireflies inside them able to be placed down like lanterns.

So we could have twinkling glass bottles as decorations.

    This would be amazing.

I thought of this not as a light source but how to breed Frogs but I like the idea for a light source as well.

I think it should be like catching and letting go fish in a bucket. You can also use them to breed frogs, and the more in the jar the bigger the light. And Also everyone needs to know the title says bottle, not jar. There’s also no really reason to add it to the game.

I think that the more fireflies you collect the more light it gives:

    -1 Firefly : 3 Light Levels(Max:5 Fireflies),

A firefly can be collected when they are right clicked with an empty bottle(and this bottle can be placable on blocks),

And if you right click while shifting while holding the bottle with fireflies, they would get released,

I think it should have a custom animation too like fireflies can move and flash giving off different light levels in the bottle.

This is probably the only use that has left for fireflies since Agnes said that they are dangerous to frogs.

I think it could be a cool feature but i think it would also be a cool idea to basically teleport fireflies by splashing the bottle like a splash potion to essentially be a way to capture fireflies in a bottle and basically get a firefly spawn egg

oh and maybe make it sparkle when you splash the jar

Brew fireflies with a glistening melon, magma cream, and a fermented spider eye for a potion of true blindness. Or brew them with some sugar to get a jar of bees. Or brew fireflies with a ghast tear, fermented spider eye, and a gunpowder to summon a hoard of bats.

Put a jar of fireflies at the tip of an arrow to release a mobile light source, fill a firework with them for even more, befriend and breed them all with moss, then capture and repurpose them in better lanterns and maybe something with an amethyst

it would be great, but one problem is the Mojang changed their mind of making fireflies into Minecraft so this idea is probably a useless idea, but cheer up, it is cool idea!

Unfortunately, the authorities have deleted fireflies.
