LadyAgnes (I think it was her) mentioned in Minecraft Live today that the upcoming Deep Dark Cities will have a central structure with cool unique loot, but that hasn't been showcased or named yet. I think it should be the Warding Totem, a new uncraftable block.
It would be placed in the middle of the City, and would prevent mobs from spawning in a certain radius. Not only would that make the atmosphere more spooky with the total silence, it also means mobs won't accidentally summon the Warden on you. Stealing it should probably be risky, but I'm not sure how to trap it in a sensible way yet.
Of course, taking the Totem and placing it down in your base would be the goal when stealing it, letting you protect your home from mobs without needing to light it all up, keeping the atmosphere. I don't think this would be too overpowered, as you need to actually conquer the city and make it out alive, and there are only so many Deep Dark Cities in the world.
