With the addition of new mountains, (And more diverse terrain in general), it's important that treelines are at least somewhat consistent- which seems to be the case in most of the experimental snapshots. However, there are still some weird situations where things look a bit weird. (Such as really tall spruce trees generating on top of mountains.)
One idea I would propose is somewhat inspired by the Terraforged terrain generation mod- which, among other things, adds a variety of different models for trees, which are partly chosen based on altitude. When grown at greater heights, most tree types tend to be shorter and stubbier, and the transition between them looks really good. (This could also just be a feature for naturally generated trees, not trees planted by players.)
