Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

Item sorting copper hopper.

A hopper with two "exits". One always facing down. And one to the side.

 

The hopper has a special slot where an example of the desired item is placed. Items matching this are pushed down. Items not matching are pushed to the side.

 

The hopper can only hold one stack at a time (to give it some downside compared to iron hopper). Therefore it would have to have a chest on top to pull from to be utilized well.

 

The recipe is like a normal hopper, but with copper.

    I don't think this will ever happen because in Mojang's eyes it would "take away from creativity." It would be cool. But I also think the idea needs some nerfing or repurposing, such as, only sorting non-stackable items, only having one exit, or not sorting items but funnelling items faster like hopper Minecarts. Good idea overall just needs some re-thinking.

    Another idea for the recipe is to include a redstone comparator. It could use the comparator instead of the chest and copper instead of iron. Since there is no chest it would have no storage (just holds two items: the goal and the item being compared) . It would pull in one item at a time and then push it out.

    These could be easily chained side by side to sort multiple different items into different chests with a catch all chest on the side of the last one.
