I'm really happy about the changes to peaks. They look even more dramatic and jagged than those on Bedrock. I can say from what I've seen that their overall structure and form is the closest it needs to be to how it is on Bedrock. It would be nice for the peaks to be a very tiny bit smoother than it currently is, since the extreme jaginess can make it jarring in some places; a bit of smoothness can make it more natural. I also think that the new peaks should be more likely to appear at the "very high altitude" range, above Y=200. Though they definitely look very dramatic regardless of actual height, being more towards the >200 range would provide more space for the other mountain sub-biomes to often generate below the peak biomes like they do on Bedrock. I noticed that there is only space for either a Mountain Grove or a Snowy Slope to generate below the peaks in most cases. It still looks great, but appearing more often in the higher ranges would allow Snowy Slopes to generate in between the Lofty Peaks and Mountain Groves, making the new peaky mountains more snowy on average. 1/2

My last comment is that Mountain Meadows should almost always generate at the base of Mountains as opposed to it being mostly made up of the surrounding biomes, making them actually function as "Mountain" Meadows. The surrounding biomes should definitely still be able make up parts of the mountain base, and in the case of Tundras a Meadows biome wouldn't work. So there would still be variation. Of course Stony Peaks are a different story, as they are hotter peaks intended to top biomes like Savannahs and Jungles, so a Meadows (which is a cold biome) wouldn't be need there. 2/2

Hello dear mojang. I love the recent changes in terrain generation. It's so beautiful now, it makes me want to explore the world for hours!
There are only 2 things I would like to see changed in future snapshots:

-Slightly tone down the rougness of the new mountain tops.
I absolutly love the new steepy and jagged peaks, but I often see a lot of very thin, unnatural stone "spikes" on the top. In my opinion a little smaller in quantity, but thicker and triangle-shaped peaks would look better and more realistic.

-Make the tallest mountains a bit more common.
I know mojang wants to keep the tallest mountains rare, but in my opinion they're too rare at the moment. Their rarity makes them difficult to find even while using commands. I would love to enjoy the new features on survival, so even rare biomes should be accesible at some point.

That's all what I'd like to see changed.
However I have some suggestions on future features:

    -Add snowy giant spruce taiga.
I love how now Giant taigas often generate surrounded by cold, snowy biomes, so why not add a snowy version? Normal taiga already has It's snowy variant,
so Giant spruce taiga would be happy to get one too!

    -Add all variants of dripstone.
The Dripstone block at the moment is only a decoration,
and going to dripcaves is pointless, so all kinds of dripstone blocks would be cool.

    -More uses for amethyst!
Geodes are pretty rare, so finding one should provide a few more possibilities than just making a scope.

I really love the jagged peaks! So spectacular!

I suggest to add a lake beneath those mountains. And the color of the water should be light blue, just like the warm sea.

In my Opinion, This very snapshot suits my VERY well, My only Potential concern (since I haven't played it) is that there may not be enough flat space to create large houses, while I don't see this as too much of a concern. other than that, I think this snapshot has Nigh-perfected overground generation, just needs a tad more balancing. If I were to suggest anything, it would be to have Biome connectors, have certain biomes be used to bridge the link between unlikely biomes such as a desert and a tundra. overall, I think the Generation is perfect.

The mountains at this point in the game are epic! The peaks, the rivers, everything it's all so beautiful that i honestly don't know where i should build my 1.18 base first! If i could give some feedback it would be cool if some more edge biomes could exist it would add a nicer transitions to the world when going from biome to biome if i would suggest an edge biome as an example it would be a diorite or calcite cliff that would be a transition between a mountain biome and an ocean. Anyway that's about it

If i find any bugs i'll put em here

In my opinion in lush caves there should be more lapis lazuli or gold ores because in dripstone caves there is more copper and this thing will upgrade this biome a little bit. And I think that world generator is pretty cool

I loved this new experimental snapshot, with the new peaks the mountains look very realistic and beautiful, I'm really very satisfied but there is something I would like to be added that is more ice generation in the peaks and mountains and caves like under the snowy mountains there will be caves with compact ice peaks, it would be very cool.

Certainly much better than 1.17 generation and make me nostalgic about the old beta terrain generator. Microbiomes need to be more common and is crucial to terrain variety.

Still after 10 years, there are too many oceans over trying dozen of seeds, generation still need to be more 'crazy', more mountains (world is still too flat and boring) and NEED interaction with the different biomes (microbiomes).

    So basically what I want:
    - less oceans

    - more microbiomes

    - even more mountains, less flat areas

Pre 1.8 beta terrain is still superior (have more variety), despite having far fewer biomes.

Love the smoother river generation and mountains. Found an awesome village generated along the plateau over a river ravine.  I'd still push for generation of vertical items sich as stairs and ladders within villages given the possible height differences. Same for Mines.

Since the Biomes are blending really well, is it possible to do the same with villages? I'm thinking like the pirate ships can be built with different wood, can the houses change materials depending on the biome it is in? The example village along the ravine is 50 percent in the Jungle biome. I think it would help with the cohesiveness by building the houses out of jungle wood instead of oak.

The new snapshots are constantly getting way better! But to keep this short, I will just say, Most of the mountains, even in hot biomes, end with stone or some sharp peak at the top. But near me IRL, the Appalachians are really tall and the climate around them is warm, but the tops of them are not sharp and rough, and mainly smooth curves with spruce and fir forests, sort of representative of the grove biome that exists now. Basically, it would be cool to see mid level mountains that are dominated by the grove biome at the peaks, much like the Appalachians.

The new changes to the mountains look absolutely fantastic! The only real issues I see with the world generation is with the biome placement.

The biggest issue is the weird placement of mountain biomes. For example, I may find a small, maybe 50 block patch of lofty peaks on the side of a jungle mountain.

Another issue that I have is that there aren't smooth transitions between snowy and non snowy areas. Having a plains biome at the base of a mountain with no snow and maybe 5 blocks up there's deep snow is very jarring, to say the least.

My suggestion would be to maybe completely decouple snow generation from the mountain biomes (I'm not sure about how this would work with snow biomes), and instead use snow as a decoration layer. This could also lead to some interesting terrain such as snowy meadows and forests if the conditions were permitting.

Over all, the generation is pretty good.

As someone else said, make the above-cloud peaks a little less rare (took me half an hour in creative using TP to find one, and it only got 2 blocks above the clouds.)

I am still seeing some low areas of biomes covered in a block or two of water for 30+ blocks yet still identifying as a land biome. I do not know if this was supposed to be fixed but that is my hope with the dynamic liquid levels.

The mineshaft bridge supports seem a bit awkward. I found a HUGE cavern with a couple mineshafts in it, mostly made of bridges because the cavern was so huge. The support columns were awkwardly long and ugly (the chains much less so), and the logs tended to catch fire from the lava they were set in, leaving the bridge floating anyway.

Would it be possible to accommodate specific things about 1.18 Experimental Snapshot 2's worldgen? Things I've noticed that have disappeared in snapshot 3 and 4 include:

Tiered aquifers or variable level subterranean ponds/lakes, massive caverns / chambers, lush biome caverns (are extremely rare across 10 random seeds), dripstone is either too common, or as rare as lush. Mineshafts no longer seem to appear above deepslate level, unless you're in badlands (I haven't tested this, specifically, more than across 3 worlds).

I'd absolutely love if you brought back the massive, connected caverns. The tiered subterranean lakes / aquifers and balance the prevalence of lush and dripstone biomes.

I'd also be curious about "temperature" worldgen, under world type. Hypothetically, one could select "cold", "hot" or "temperate" at the options screen. Generation would then favor biomes under the specified temperature scale. So, "cold" generation would have taiga, tundra, ice spikes, peaks, giant spruce, etc, more commonly than dessert or savannah.

I'm really happy, overall, but the subterranean worldgen changes since snapshot 2 have been lackluster in comparison to that snapshot. The overworld generation itself, however, with the mountain and river changes, continue to impress.

Firstly, I wanted to say that I'm very happy with the terrain changes in this snapshot and I'm glad that the jagged peaks from bedrock and the jungle edge biome got added. I think the caves are near perfect right now so I will just mention my feedback on the overworld terrain.

-Mountains that go above 200 blocks are extremely rare. They should be a lot easier to find but still relatively uncommon. The peaks should also be a bit more common because they're also really rare. The actual new mountain biome rarity is fine.

-The limit in which the terrain can go should increase to 280 blocks instead of 256.

-Most of the new mountains feel just like a small elevated snowy tundra/stone shore blob rather than an actual mountain. This ties in with the previous point that mountains should be a lot taller but also larger in length and width, similar to the bedrock edition.

-The blobs of dirt and gravel should be completely removed in the lofty peaks and stony peaks to match the bedrock edition, in which no dirt spawns in those biomes.

-Snowcapped peaks should also be mixed with the peaky terrain, just like in the bedrock edition. Note, I'm not saying they should also be peaky like the lofty peaks but they should mix inside that type of terrain to make a nice contrast.

-Make Azalea trees not be able to spawn in the middle of the ocean.

-Bring back the obsidian and magma block ravines in the ocean that were added in the update aquatic.

-Make small islands in the ocean a bit more common.

I still have yet to find a village that isn't marred by some sort of impassable terrain, and/or glitched with a few buildings and farms floating in midair because a cave generated in the actual village. Kind of a bummer (and massive immersion breaker), as a player, to have to immediately fix up any village upon finding it just to keep the villagers from getting themselves stuck, falling off cliffs, or getting attacked by mobs that spawn in the daytime within the village itself.

Everything else is some of the best terrain I've ever seen in a video game.

    Hey! Here's another feedback!

Firstly, I personally think that high snowy mountains are too separated, sometimes even with a big plain between them! I wish they become more centralized and become a mountain range, which would be super beautiful.

Anyway, where is the deepdark? I'm looking forward to it! Maybe the Warden is crying about this.

Concept for mountains: ice peak caves under mountains (ice peaks biome but under mountains)

Very much enjoying the experimental snapshots so far. As a player since the alpha days, who has mostly kept up with the releases, I can honestly say that this dedication to improving the terrain and making it feel more natural and have like a better overall flow is very welcome. While there's definitely a little more polishing to do, having tested the same seed throughout ESs 3-5 I can really see a marked improvement in how the biomes come together. Exploration for the pure joy of seeing something awesome or truly unexpected is about to become a thing again.

Im so gonna build an ocean river tunnel under these mountains. Almost as if I have a jetski coming out of the foot of the mountain tunnel, down to the ocean.

I dont know if Mojang has tried this but have you ever experimented with mountain rivers connecting with oceans? Its not a suggestion that I am looking for but just a question.

This snapshot feels actually more balanced, things feel new and exciting without being extremely chaotic. (One exception is the number of huge holes in the ground, especially in the swamps in water. Are the swamps leaking?)

The springs are a great addition in lush caves, they feel a bit livelier(?). Would be really interesting to see how lush caves would look like with axolotls spawnng, right now the only change I would suggest is a bit more springs there.

In the mountains, springs look nice and weird a the same time. They are not a proper substitute for waterfalls. However, in survival they can help scale mountains and provide something different from jumping/pillaring up, which will eventually get old otherwise.

Jungle edge needs even more love, it very pretty! Also, it has nice grass colour and is easier to clear out than usual jungle, so survival builders might be interested in it.

Biome rarity is still messed up, but it feels better

    Swamps also generally look better

Temperature blending is still off, had a plains bordering a snowy tundra

Snow in mountains does not get carved through, so it ends up floating

The mountains look spectacular. The fjords also are magnanimous. Most of the generation is really shaping up to be something great.

I do think the Badlands needs to stop generating as a micro-biome. It looks so weird when it attaches itself to a mountain or runs through other biomes. Micro biomes are a neat idea, but not all of them work as micro biomes. I think the same goes for the jungle. In general, I think there also needs to be more flat areas in the world. While I love the hills and everything, it feels like it should be toned back a bit.

The generation of terrain is wonderfull!! But the only thing that really  looks bad is the blend of bioms. The bioms them self seem to fit well with each other , but the micro bioms do not always fit with the biom it spawn in, which makes the terrain look messy. I think you need to find the micro bioms that really fits to each one of the bioms. For exempel, snow bioms do not mix well with none snow bioms.

    In all, wonderfull work! :D

I like the peaks but they need to go above Y200 more often, most of the time the peaks i see goto Y150 and have basically no height variation, only on occasion i see cliffs over Y180

Instead of the connected maze mineshafts were, in the snapshots mineshafts tend to be disjointed and disconnected, making much of the mineshafts hidden and unreachable without mining from other parts of the mineshaft.
