This idea is have four different craftable tripwire hook variants, as follows:
The Iron Tripwire Hook will crafted identically to, and behave similarly to, the old "Tripwire Hook".
The Gold Tripwire Hook is crafted with a gold ingot, a stick, and a plank. Unlike the Iron Tripwire Hook, it does not power redstone dust, nor adjacent mechanisms, unless said mechanism is the block which the Gold Tripwire Hook is attached to.
The Copper Tripwire Hook is crafted from a copper ingot, a stick, and a plank. It powers/activates even fewer things than the Gold Tripwire Hook, not even the block it is attached to. However, if the block it is attached to is redstone powered, the Copper Tripwire Hook causes the #tripwire_hook at the opposite end of the tripwire circuit to become powered.
The Brick Tripwire Hook is crafted from a brick, a stick, and a plank, and powers virtually nothing, only comparators or repeaters facing away from itself.
All four Tripwire Hooks have a new block tag, #tripwire_hook.
A new Tripwire Circuit consists of 1 to 40 tripwire in a line, and any two #tripwire_hook blocks facing the wire; the circuit activates when any (non-projectile) entity collides with any of the tripwires, or when a wire is mined without shears.
If string can be waxed, then normal and waxed string would have a #tripwire block tag, and Tripwire Circuits would check for that tag, instead of "minecraft:tripwire" blocks specifically. Waxed string and all tripwire hooks would be water-loggable.
