The mace has become the most oppressive weapon in the game by far making any other form of PvP unusable when facing it. The entire concept of the weapon is poor design and needs a rework. Dealing unlimited damage by falling from the sky where you don't even see a mace player coming is un-fun for anyone playing against it and makes a lot of people rage on servers. A second grievance, is that when you're dueling someone with a sword and they jump in the air with a wind charge and one shot kill you with a maxed out mace. That's not good design. It's unbalanced and unfair for anyone who is playing against it.
By far the most annoying issue with the mace and spear both is how they are paired with elytra. When I play PvP, I don't want to feel like I'm fighting against an eagle that will kill me in one hit if I slip up.
Some ideas for how you can balance the two weapons are a damage cap of maybe three hearts, or doing something to limit their use with elytra.
Any weapon that has the ability to one shot a maxed out player with an enchanted golden apple, wardens, etc is a fundamentally broken concept that needs to be addressed.
This includes crystals as well but they are not as oppressive as the mace and spear.
I own multiple servers and the biggest gripe players have with the mace and spear are how anyone can fall out of the sky and kill them in one hit before they ever saw that player. I solved this with a paper plugin by implementing a damage cap and many players enjoyed it.
Please fix!
