Stumps. Tree roots

A block of rooted dirt appears under trees. If a tree block is above it, it's harder to break.
 
This can discourage players from mining the block, which will later indicate that a tree (or even a whole forest) was there, but the player cut it down.
 
If you set this block on fire, it will turn into a block of charred wood.
