The modding and data pack community is plagued by duplication and incompatibility. Dozens of mods create their own versions of basic items like "Flour" or "Steel Ingot" with different IDs, textures, and recipes. This forces players and pack makers to use complex compatibility mods, fracturing the ecosystem.
The Solution:
We request Mojang to add a set of official, non-functional base items to the minecraft: namespace. These would serve as universal "interface items" that all creators can safely use.
Proposed Base Items (Examples):
-
Common Materials:
steel_ingot,soul_metal -
Agricultural Products:
flour,tomato,onion -
Utility Items:
bird_egg(a generic, overridable egg item)
How It Works & Benefits:
-
Universal Standard: Every mod or data pack can use
minecraft:flourin its recipes, guaranteeing cross-compatibility. -
Zero Content Burden for Mojang: These items need only a basic texture and model. All functional meaning (crafting, smelting, special effects) is defined by community content.
-
Unlocks Creativity: Provides essential, theme-neutral components for tech mods, RPG packs, cooking systems, and more, right out of the box.
-
Safe: Being vanilla items, they cannot cause world corruption if a data pack is removed.
Why This First?
This is a low-effort, high-impact change that solves an immediate, painful problem for the entire creator community. It lays the groundwork for a more unified and collaborative ecosystem.
