1. A New Type of Crop
I suggest adding Tamarillo to the Savanna and Badlands biomes. Unlike berries or wheat, Tamarillo grows on small trees (2-3 blocks high). This adds verticality to farming and makes these dry biomes more useful for survival.
2. Growth and Harvesting
Structure: Tamarillo grows from a sapling into a thin, woody stem. The fruits hang from the top leaves.
Colors: There are two variants: Red (sour) and Gold (sweet). Red Tamarillo grows commonly, while Gold is a rare mutation.
Harvesting: You can pick the fruit without breaking the plant. It regrows over time, creating a permanent "vertical orchard."
3. Unique Mechanics: Peeling and Cooking
In real life, tamarillo skin is bitter. I suggest bringing this to Minecraft:
Raw Tamarillo: Eating it raw gives 2 hunger points but has a chance to give 10 seconds of Nausea.
The Peeling: Placing a Tamarillo in the crafting grid yields Tamarillo Pulp.
Tamarillo Stew: Combining Pulp with a Bowl and Sugar creates a high-saturation meal that provides a short Resistance I buff.
4. Golden Tamarillo
The rare Gold variant is highly prized. Eating it restores 6 hunger points and grants Fire Resistance for 30 seconds. This makes it a great early-game alternative to Golden Apples for exploring lava-filled areas.
Conclusion
Tamarillo fills the gap in Savanna farming and introduces a new way to grow food vertically. It encourages players to interact with "bitter/sweet" mechanics, making the cooking system smarter and more realistic.
