I propose adding a dedicated Modular Pillar Block system to Minecraft to provide more depth and detail for architectural builds. Currently, players use Walls or Fences as substitutes, but these often look too thin or lack the structural "heft" of real columns.
How it Works: The Pillar would be a dynamic block (similar to an Anvil or a Wall) that adjusts its model based on how it is stacked:
-
Pillar Base: When placed on the floor, the block acts as a "Base." It is a full 16x16 pixel block but features deep horizontal indentations (grooves) to give it a heavy, decorated look.
-
Pillar Shaft: When stacked on top of a base, the middle blocks become slightly thinner (approx. 12x12 pixels). This "inset" look creates a realistic column silhouette.
-
Pillar Capital: The top block (touching a ceiling) automatically widens again to form a "Capital," connecting seamlessly with the roof.
Crafting & Accessibility:
-
Stonecutter: These pillars should be crafted via the Stonecutter for better accessibility in Survival mode.
-
Materials: Available for all major stone types (Quartz, Stone Bricks, Sandstone, Deepslate, Granite, etc.).
Why this is needed: This system allows for much more detailed temples, cathedrals, and ruins. It bridges the gap between "too thick" full blocks and "too thin" walls. It stays true to the Minecraft aesthetic while giving builders the tools for professional-grade architectural details.
