Sheep currently wander aimlessly as disconnected individuals. The Bellwether system introduces collective behavior to passive mobs, turning simple meadows into living landscapes through natural flocking patterns.
1. The System: Bellwether Leadership
Upon natural generation, sheep groups have a 25% chance to designate a "Bellwether" leader.
* The Behavior: Instead of random wandering, the group maintains a tight formation behind the leader. They move as a single unit across meadows, creating a visually rhythmic "herd" effect that mimics real-world nature.
* The Reset: This coordinated movement persists as long as the sheep remain within simulation distance. The flock only reverts to standard behavior if the player disrupts them by shearing, feeding, or attacking any member.
2. Player Interaction & Discovery
The herd provides a unique atmospheric experience for explorers.
* Observation: Players can witness these herds from a distance, adding a layer of life to the Overworld that feels purposeful.
* Utility: It simplifies animal management. By moving a Bellwether, the player can influence the movement of the entire group at once without needing a lead for every animal.
Why add this?
It enhances the "soul" of the Overworld using existing assets. It creates beautiful, emergent moments that make the world feel immersive. It rewards players for observing animal behavior and makes peaceful biomes feel like a functioning ecosystem.
