The way Minecraft has traditionally been managed is by following the principle of “Never punishing the player”, when they did nothing wrong. There are some exceptions to this rule, but I don’t think slime chunks should still be in this category.
Many people have voiced their frustration with slime chunks over the years. Imagine planning to build an underground base, only to be met with slimes spawning everywhere. You can’t exactly expect a player to know where the slime chunks are at the moment they decide where to live. And even if they do, sometimes they specifically want their base to be in that area.
Instead of outright removing slime chunks (which have been an integral part of the game), here are some ideas:
1) A mob that prevents slime spawning within a given chunk or area as part of its feature set.
2) Moving slimes off the hostile mob cap and giving them their own separate mob cap, which would also fill up when a slime is in a boat, minecart, or has been named with a nametag.
3) Making slime chunks inactive underground via a “slime chunk core” block that, when powered by redstone, disables slime spawning in that chunk.
While some of these options seem promising, I think the comments will also have great ideas on how to fix this problem as well. Thank you.
