Hi Mojang,
As you know, the enchanting system in Minecraft is heavily based on random chance. The main issue is that many enchantments feel either underpowered or outright useless—such as Bane of Arthropods, or most protection types compared to standard Protection. This makes the randomness feel more frustrating than rewarding.
Another major problem is the excessive XP requirement. At the moment, if a player wants to enchant their gear properly, using an XP farm feels almost mandatory. Alternatively, players rely on villager breeders to obtain specific enchantment books, which are also based on randomness and require significant setup and time investment. With the experimental villager trade changes, this process is becoming even more tedious.
Even after finally getting the enchantments you want, you still need to spend hours grinding XP just to apply books through an anvil. During this process, anvils can break, increasing the cost and frustration even further. Additionally, the “Too Expensive” system essentially forces players to obtain Mending if they want to keep their gear for the long term. If repairing gear infinitely were more accessible, Mending wouldn’t feel so mandatory.
Overall, it feels like an overwhelming amount of work just to obtain what are essentially basic buffs. Don’t you think the current system asks too much from players for too little payoff?
I suggest that Minecraft needs a better enchantment system that is less grindy and more fun to do.
